Ski Doo Touring SLE reverse problem

I have a 95 touring sle, one day when my daughter put it into reverse it made an awful grinding noise and would not move. I took the chaincase apart and the reverse gears looked a little worn so I replaced them with used but unworn gears. I reassembled but it still makes the noise. I stripped it down again and all I can think is the chain is jumping the reverse sprocket. I have adjusted the rev. linkage so I think I am getting enough throw to engage the gears but you cannot tell with the case off! I also noticed the lower driven sprocket is damaged and I have one on order. Any ideas or suggestions much appreciated.

Rust question

I just bought a Arctic Cat 550 cougar from a friend today and it has rust on the ski's. I have taken a angle grinder and put a brush attachment onto it and used it to remove surface rust on other things like tractors and wagons. Would it work to brush them down, then prime and paint them. I am 17 and on a tight budget so new skis are out of the question, it looks like it would work. What do you guys think? Thanks.

2014 Holdover Sleds

Been looking around at all my options and I am considering getting a 2014 Polaris 600 SP or a skidoo MXZ sport. Anyone have an idea when the best time will be to buy a holdover sled at the cheapest prices and any guess on what I can expect to pay for one?

If there are similar sleds I could get a great deal on let me know, I'm not looking for anything too fancy. And I have a sled to ride for this season so buying one to ride is not a high priority, I'm more interested in what time of the year I should really think about looking to purchase, i have heard both January/February and also April/May.

DIY wheels instead of ski's

Not sure if this has been covered before but I was thinking of building a set of wheels to take the place of the ski's for dry ground riding.

Has anyone fabricated or used any type of wheels for their sled> I was thinking of this because I maybe get 2-6ft of snowfall once per winter.(It varies alot per year)

My thought was a bracket and axle to hold maybe 6 inch go-kart wheels and fit them to the anchor point for the ski's. I'm sure this tears the track up but the current one is old and hard.... So it will be time for a new one soon.

2002 ski doo summit 500f grinding sound?

$

Hello I have a 2002 summit 500 fan cooled ski-doo, I got it for free from a friend and after riding it around for a bit I noticed a kind of grinding sound in the front under the cowling on the left side, I have looked at both the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings on the SPEEDO side and their is no evidence of greese coming out of bearing and the speedo works. it only happens when im going at slow speeds, when I take off it go's away until I slow down again. It does not make the grinding sound when I lift the track off the ground and give it gas, only under a load and the track on the ground will it make this sound. And im not sure if it matters but the speedo still works on the sled and their is nothing rubbing in the tunnel, so I figured it must be the clutch, secondary, or jackshaft. the only other issue is the break disk is very loose it seems to me and the sound somewhat go's away when holding the break while moving but not totally. the jackshaft and driveshaft bearing seem solid when trying to move them around. Any help to narrow this down would be great, thanx

Engine bogging down

I have two 1999 Skidoo Touring E's that I bought at the same time. They ran fine until last year. This year, I couldn't get them to start and move, so I took the carbs off and cleaned them in dipping solvent. I reinstalled the carbs and both sleds started right up. After they warmed up, I tried to get them to move but giving them gas causes the engine to bog as though the tracks are jammed, but I can get the tracks to move manually. The engines fall back to idling just fine. They have fresh gas and new plugs. I have tried different settings on the jet screws, but it doesn't help. 'Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks

idle problems

I have a 2002 ski doo summit 500f, It for some reason doesn't want to idle and is hard to get going, when first starting it it requires the choke to stay on until you go about 400 yards and then itll run but not great. then if you shut it off after a few miles of riding it is really hard to start again unless you let it sit for about 30 mins. I have cleaned the carbs once and didn't seem to help, a few times I rode it tho it idled and started right up just fine for some reason.

This is an odd one.

I'm about to go through the wiring on this again. The plastic mounts on the CDI broke off and just bumped around for a while.

But here's what is odd. First pull it will have a good strong spark. After the first pull it will have no spark or sporadic spark.

I'm thinking a wire is shorting out. I'll know tomorrow when I work on it. Busy watching game 4 of the World Series today. :)

Bar Risers

I want to put a bar riser on my Pantera, nothing wazoo, just 2-3 inches. Looking for opinions on whether I should use the standard block style or the 30 degree base mount straight up style. Will I run into any issues either way?:dunno:

How do i remove HAC?

$

I want to remove my high altitude compensator on my 2002 summit 500f, I can not find a video on how to do this properly. And once I remove it do I need to get new jets for the carbs, if so what size for my machine? I do not operate at anything over 3000 feet, it has already been disconnected by someone else but I don't think it was done correctly.

Carburetor replacement?

I am trying to find a carburetor that will eliminate the HAC "high altitude compensator" on my 2002 summit 500 fan cool. It has a cable choke set up not a primer. I found one on ebay that I think will fit but I do not know enough about snowmachine to make a decision. Any help on what carb would work for that sled and totally eliminate the HAC would be awesome. thanx

Hello. Just looking for info to learn a bit about sleds. I'm looking for a utility type sled, like A Yamaha VK540. I'd like to pull a sled with corn to winter feed deer, etc.

Or take any opinions folks have to offer.
